Former DE Director Dee Ford Cut by 49ers: Report

On July 27, the San Francisco 49ers cleared the veteran defensive end of Dee Ford, according to the organization.

As the Kansas City Captain’s first pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, Ford spent five seasons in Kansas City, amassing 69 QBs, 30.5 volleys, and 44 tackles. if you lose within that time frame, according to Pro Football Reference.

After his final season with the Chiefs in 2018, in which he scored 29 QBs, 13 covers, 13 tackles and the first Pro Bowl nod of his career, Ford signed 5-year, $85.5 million contract with the following 49ers off-season. Unfortunately, injuries plagued Ford during his time in San Francisco, causing him to only play a total of 21 games for the 49ers over the next three seasons.

Now that he has been released, Ford, 31, is free to sign with any team he chooses. But the teams interested in Ford will decide if he is fit enough to contribute on the football field.

Twitter reacts to Ford being cut

Twitter users reacted to Ford being cut by the 49ers, prompting the Chiefs to ponder their thoughts.

“If the Sheriffs signed Dee Ford instead of Dunlap, I could go into cardiac arrest,” one Twitter user wrote.

“I can’t believe anyone would even think, let alone suggest that the Chiefs should entertain bringing Dee Ford back… any amount of money,” another user wrote.

“Players that Team Leaders should consider BEFORE Dee Ford: SURPRISE is anyone. I’d rather play one man in defence all season than sign that man Dee Ford,” another user wrote.

“Look, you can talk about the Frank Clark deal not being worth it, and I personally would agree, but give Veach credit for knowing not to put a bunch of money on Dee Ford,” another user write.

According to Dov Kleiman, Kansas City found a defensive clue for Chris Odom on Wednesday, July 27.

Odom is best known for his most recent work, including being named USFL Defensive Player of the Year for the 2022 season. In the league’s inaugural season, Odom scored 12 ,5 times fired, according to Fox Sports.

Before joining the USFL, Odom spent time in the NFL. After leaving Arkansas State in 2017, Odom worked a total of seven games for the Green Bay Packers that year, and then worked for four games for the Washington Redskins later in 2019, according to Pro Football Reference.

Odom was a player linked to the Chiefs prior to his scheduled practice in Kansas City.

According to Kleiman, the captains are one of three teams that will host Odom, the remaining teams being the Arizona Cardinals and Cincinnati Bengals. That means Kansas City may have to engage in a bidding war if it wants Odom’s services at least through the summer.
