Tom Bergeron has a new project in the works.

Tom Bergeron teased a new screenwriting project no one saw coming.

The veteran TV star, who fronted Dancing with the Stars for 15 years and 28 seasons, is best known for his long-running appearances as a host on DWTS, Hollywood Squares and America’s Funniest Home Videos. according to IMDb. But in January 2023, he announced that he was collaborating on an upcoming project unlike anything he’d done before.

Here’s what you need to know:

Tom Bergeron’s true story has been turned into a screenplay

Bergeron once joked to TV Insider that his career path “looks like a hostage ticket cut and pasted from a pile of different magazines.” After starting as a broadcaster, “other possibilities arose,” he said.

“I was on two network shows for almost 15 years each, so life was good. I’ve hosted every format imaginable,” Bergeron said in 2020, shortly after being fired from his role as DWTS host.

In January 2023, Bergeron, 67, shared a photo on Instagram as he held up a document entitled “Family Tree.” The typewritten front page revealed the play was written by Katie Amanda Keane and Marla Solokoff.

“Story of Tom Bergeron and William Shatner,” it also said.

Bergeron tagged the post as “Stay tuned”.

“LET’S GO!!!” Solokoff wrote in the comments section.

Bergeron also responded to a fan’s question, “Are you working on a new game show or a TV show?”

“Nope. Play 2023 in different sandboxes”, replied the DWTS graduate.

Bergeron elaborated in another comment.”[William Shatner] and I made up the story (inspired by a real incident in my life) and [Katie Amanda Keane} and [Marla Solokoff] masterfully woven it into the script that I own. I hope to share more information soon,” he added.

Shatner also chimed in to provide details. “Let me correct that. [Tom Bergeron]shared a story, I asked the right questions and brought out the best bits that he didn’t originally tell me and told Tom that this was going to be a great project. So…why is my name the second?” Shatner wrote.

“And so it begins,” Bergeron collapsed.

Several fans commented to congratulate Bergeron and to ask him if they could play a role in the project. Bergeron has not clarified whether the script is for a television or film project.

Tom Bergeron has been close friends with William Shatner for years

While Bergeron’s new script comes as a surprise, the fact that he worked with Shatner is no surprise. The two have been friends for years.

According to Pop CultureBergeron even defended Shatner, 91, while the actor feuded with his “Star Trek” co-star George Takei. After Shatner takes a short trip on a space shuttle, Takei describes him as a 90-year-old “guinea pig”. While speaking on The Morning Buzz radio show, Bergeron suggested that Takei “get a frigging life.”

Bergeron also tried to convince his pal Shatner to be on Dancing with the Stars. In 2019, just prior to his final season hosting the ABC Celebrity Ballroom Competition, Bergeron sent a video message to Shatner that played on “Good Morning America”.

“Hey Bill, Tom here. So you’re on Good Morning America. I’ll be on Good Morning America soon to introduce the new cast of Dancing with the Stars. And if you just stick with Good Morning America, maybe we could add your name to the list,” Bergeron said in the video. “You want it too. Come on mate.”

Shatner revealed he’s been asked to do DWTS “for years.” “You know, you can make a fool of yourself anywhere, but on ‘Dancing with the Stars’ you’re more likely to make a fool of yourself,” he said. “I think my dancing years are over, but if Tom carried me around, I think maybe.”
