Mullens started 16 games, appearing in 19 games in total, over three years with the 49ers after signing in 2017 as an untrained free agent. During that time, he completed 64.5% of his passes for 4,714 yards, each Refer to professional football. He also launched 25 touchdown passes compared to 22 interceptions and scored 2 quick TDs.

Keenum overtook Denver 17-14 in that contest, but he had a relatively healthy team around him at the time. Should Mullens be the one to initiate the fight Las Vegas Raiders come Saturday, he will incur a more obvious disadvantage.

There are still two situations where Mullens won’t get the nod. The first is that if he comes across the virus on his own, that is a real possibility as he has been in relatively close contact with Keenum in defence over the past few days.

The second is that Mayfield and/or Keenum are likely to come back from the reserve list to play in time. The NFL issued abrupt rule changes on Thursday that put some Browns players hope rolled back based on changes to test requirements.

In a nutshell, players no longer have to pass two consecutive tests at least 24 hours apart, a process open to anyone who tests positive for the virus regardless of immunization status or if The player in question has no symptoms.

The NFL will now measure the viral load in a player who tests positive. If the measurement is healthy enough, that player will be able to play even if he still shows a positive result on an approved test.

“With the people we put on the list, have a constant dialogue with them to stay on top, see what they’re doing; and then number two, make sure they’re locked in and always ready and in the game plan,” Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said in a statement. Press Conference Thursday. “We will continue to follow the minute-by-minute, hour-by-hour protocols.”
