Former Kansas City leader Sammy Watkins celebrates his Super Bowl victory on February 2, 2020.

Earlier at 11:49 a.m. this morning, it was reported that former Kansas City Manager Sammy Watkins was visiting with the Green Bay Packers.

NFL Network Internal Mike Garafolo note that “no deal” was offered at the time, but asked fans to “stay tuned.” Turns out he was right, when news emerged more than two hours later that Watkins had agreed to a deal.

Watkins replaces MVS in Green Bay

NFL Reporter Jordan Schultz was the first about the sequel, tweeting that Watkins is “signing a one-year contract [with] packers. “

He added that the contract is “worth up to $4 million, per source.”

Ironically, Watkins should help replace Patrick Mahomes’ new weapon, Marques Valdes-Scantling, who left Green Bay on the freelance job. Now with Aaron Rodgers, the former Team Captain will have a good shot at another Super Bowl ring in 2022.

NFC is the much weaker conference right now, and even without Davante Adams, the Packers look like a runner-up in the knockout stages.

Of course, Watkins’ first championship came with Kansas City in 2019. It was also the top campaign of the league widely with the Chiefs, with 673 yards received and three touchdowns. He added a versatile 302 yards throughout the post-season, scoring one touchdown and contributing his first 13 knockdowns.

Like KC, the Packers are expected to soon target a wide receiver slot in the draft. Watkins is joined by Allen Lazard, Randall Cobb, Amari Rodgers, Malik Taylor and Juwann Winfree among others.
