Everton are set to appoint Frank Lampard as their new coach – and he will include Paul Clement as part of his behind-the-scenes staff at Goodison Park.
That’s according to The Telegraphwho suggested that Clement appears to be following Lampard to Merseyside.
It looks like Chelsea manager Anthony Barry – a Liverpudlian and former Everton youth player – will join Lampard.
However, Barry has now stayed at Chelsea and Lampard will instead look to add Clement to his coaching staff.
Lampard is signing a two-and-a-half-year contract with Everton, returning to management after being sacked by Chelsea last January.
Inheriting a struggling team under Rafael Benitez, it has not been an easy job for Lampard – but having Clement on the board will help.
Clement, 50, has a wealth of coaching experience and knows Lampard very well from their time together at Chelsea.
Clement is the favorite player of former Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti, who worked together at Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
Four management roles did not go well for Clement. He has had stints with Derby County, Swansea City, Reading and Cercle Brugge.
Clement’s total record in those roles is 61 losses and only 42 wins, but he is highly regarded as a coach.
Brand ‘unbelievable’ by Leon BrittonClement has built a great reputation as a quality coach on the training ground even if his managerial record has not been encouraging.
Beloved by Ancelotti and now Lampard, it seems only right for Clement to end up at Everton – and he will be looking to help Lampard in a very difficult role.
