The Indianapolis Colts have started the 2022 season with training camp in full swing. There were plenty of new faces, including new quarterback Matt Ryan, but head coach Frank Reich was impressed with one of the team’s young players.

Immediately after a full crowd practice on Saturday, July 30, Reich was asked if fans could expect a bigger impact from fourth-year recipient Ashton Dulin on offense. are not. While Reich can give a general answer to the question, he is adamant about his own and the entire coaching staff’s high level of appreciation for the 25-year-old.

“I can’t stress how strongly we feel about Ashton Dulin,” Reich told reporters after practice. “He will play a role in this offense. He proved it, he earned it… We love him. We are all planning that he will make a significant contribution not only to the special teams, but also to the attack this year. “

Dulin didn’t have a prominent role in the Indianapolis attack, but that could change in 2022 with how Reich talks about him at training camp. He made some impressive catches during Saturday’s training session, so we’ll see if he can keep making pre-season games.

Ashton Dulin is ready for a breakthrough year in 2022

It’s been a long way to this point, but the fact that Dulin is heading into his fourth NFL season considering what it’s taken to get here is impressive.

Originally from Reynoldsburg High School in Ohio, Dulin was so popular that he didn’t even rank on 247Sports while in college. With limited options for where to play next, Dulin signed up to play for the Malone Pioneers, a Division II program out of Canton, Ohio.

Dulin is a dual-sport athlete at Malone, successful in both football and the indoor track. He was a two-time All-G-Mac player in football, finishing for more than 3,500 yards and 31 touchdowns in his career. On track, he set conference records and was an all-around American in the II Division.

Despite all his success in both sports, Dulin didn’t hear his name in the 2019 NFL Draft, but was picked by the Colts as an untrained free agent. He had limited action during his first few seasons with the team, mostly playing on special teams, but he made history by becoming the first Malone player to play in the NFL.

2021 is an important year for Dulin. He’s caught 13 173-yard passes and two touchdowns, but his main contributions have been on exceptional teams. He was a second-team All-Pro special, finishing second in the league with 17 exceptional tackles.

While he will likely continue to be a key member of special team units, Dulin will have a much larger role in the offensive in 2022.

Other Colts stand out in the camp

The Colts have only just kicked off training camp, but during their few training sessions for reporters, a few players have already started to stand out.

According to Bob Kravitz from The Athletic, Parris Campbell is also impressing at camp. Campbell is a video player at Ohio State, but he has struggled to keep the Colts healthy since being drafted in the second round in 2019, playing just 15 games in his first three seasons. that.

Kravitz also pointed out that rookie safety Nick Cross played well, playing safely with the first team defense alongside Julian Blackmon. Cross made a one-handed intercept on Matt Ryan’s pass during the first practice of training camp and is hoping to be named starter in Week 1.

There’s still plenty of time for other players to stand their ground, but the likes of Dulin, Campbell and Cross are off to a stormy start.
