Arsenal had been hoping for six straight wins and certainly gave Liverpool a real hit in the first half.

Liverpool eventually had too much firepower and took a 2-0 lead, leaving Arsenal a bit disappointed after a spirited performance.

An Arsenal player stole the show as winger Martinelli enjoyed a fantastic evening against Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The Brazilian big man certainly left Alexander-Arnold when he learned he was in for a match that caused loads of problems all night long.

Martinelli’s raw numbers may not be astounding; one key pass, one win contest, one interception, three successful dribbles.

That’s not entirely encapsulated in the positions he takes, the way he turns Alexander-Arnold inside and out and the shot he shoots off the post late in the game.

In the second half, Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville suggested that Martinelli let Alexander-Arnold ‘congratulate’ on causing havoc.

Praise was poured out for Martinelli’s excellent performance against Liverpool, and Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker joined in.

Lineker tweeted just seven words, saying ‘Martinelli will be a world class player’.

Arsenal fans probably agree with that, with Martinelli certainly on his way to stardom in North London.
