Gary Neville has hinted that Fabinho was largely responsible for the early goal Liverpool conceded against Manchester City this afternoon.

Liverpool fell behind in the fifth minute when Kevin De Bruyne’s long-range effort defeated Alisson.

TV records show De Bruyne’s shot badly distracted Joel Matip but Neville, speaking on Sky Sports, has suggested Fabinho was complicit.

The Brazil midfielder didn’t try to do enough to prevent the Belgium international from going around him.

He said live on Sky Sports: “When it was recycled, the ball comes to Kevin de Bruyne from that free-kick and it goes past Fabinho far too easily. It’s Matip’s distraction that’s causing a massive problem for Alisson and Liverpool.”

It was definitely an erratic first-half performance from the former Monaco powerhouse, who cost Liverpool £39million in 2018 [BBC Sport].

Pep Guardiola is usually so calm and confident that he is in sight with his squad this afternoon and it proved a very effective tactic in a fascinating first half.

Diogo Jota equalized for the Anfield side shortly after De Bruyne’s opener.

However, ten minutes before half-time, Gabriel put Jesus City ahead again.

There is a lot to think about for Liverpool during the 15-minute break but Jurgen Klopp will surely tell Fabinho to improve his game.
