Gas tanker overturns and burns on Interstate 84 in Connecticut

MANCHESTER, Conn. (AP) — A semi truck hauling over 8,000 gallons (30,000 liters) of gasoline on Interstate 84 overturned after an accident and burst into flames, closing the freeway overnight while the fire burned down.

The tanker overturned on the east side of the motorway in Manchester, east of Hartford, after an accident involving a passenger car around 9pm on Sunday. The tanker caught fire and exploded several times, Manchester Fire Brigade said in a statement.

Three people were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

The fire department decided to let the fire burn itself out, the statement said.

Traffic on I-84 was blocked in both directions Sunday night. An eastbound lane remained closed early Monday.
