A 24-year-old Indiana father has been arrested for allegedly biting his newborn daughter multiple times, leaving “mouth-shaped bruises” and teeth marks all over the child’s body.

Gavan Rogers was taken into custody on Tuesday and charged with one count of neglecting a loved one leading to bodily harm and one count of domestic battery causing bodily harm to a person under 14, both crimes, court documents reviewed by Law&Crime show.

Rogers and the baby’s mother took their 2-week-old daughter to Witham Hospital in Lebanon for a regular check-up on Nov. 3, according to a Law&Crime affidavit. Shortly after arriving at the facility, hospital workers told authorities they discovered suspicious bruises on the baby’s forearms, abdomen, shoulders, knee and leg.

Staff took the infant to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis and contacted the Whitestown Police Department.

Whitestown is about 20 miles northwest of Indianapolis.

A doctor at Children’s Hospital reported that the little girl appeared to have multiple bruises, some of which contained visible tooth marks. Gavan Rogers bit his newborn daughter: police
