Get free donuts at these stores on June 2nd, National Donut Day

Several restaurant chains across the country are offering free donuts as part of National Donut Day on Friday, June 2nd.
Donut Day was established by the Salvation Army in 1938 to honor the women who served the sweet treats to soldiers during World War I. These women were known as Salvation Army lassies, and their donuts were made with simple ingredients — flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, milk and eggs — then deep fried and dusted with powdered sugar, according to the Smithsonian.

“Salvation Army donuts” were originally served by Salvation Army ladies in 1917. During World War I, the Lassies went to the front lines in Europe to serve home-cooked meals to troops, reports the National Day Calendar.
Several national and regional chains are now celebrating the first Friday of June as Donut Day, giving away the pastries to customers with no qualifying purchases required.
