A Good Samaritan crowd pulled two victims from a burning Tesla after a violent multi-vehicle collision in California that killed one and critically injured another. Three cars collided in the car crash early Friday, which occurred around 12:45 a.m. at the intersection of Garden Grove Boulevard and Magnolia Street in Orange County.
Two people were injured and one person died in the fatal accident. The driver of the Tesla was killed and his passenger injured, Garden Grove Police Department PIO Sargent Nick Jensen told DailyMail.com. The driver of the second vehicle, a Lexus sedan, suffered life-threatening injuries. “There were no reports of injuries in the Nissan SUV, the third vehicle,” he said.
“The cause of the fatal accident was speeding and driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol, which is still under investigation,” Jensen said. “Evidence at the scene and the debris on the ground shows the car was going well over the speed limit,” the PIO said. He said the names and ages of the victims are not being released at this time.
Many bystanders jumped to the rescuers’ aid to pull at least two people out of their vehicles after the accident. Salvador Valladoid, who witnessed the horrific wreckage, called the police. The brave civilian then rushed to the scene to help extricate one of the trapped victims from the burning car, KTLA News reported.
“It’s already on fire,” Valladoid said. “We were also kind of afraid that the car would explode on us.” Video footage showed a person being pulled from the burning Tesla, the news agency reported. Jeremy Sear, another witness at the scene, said, “The driver called for help.” “I did my best to get him out,” he said.
A female driver was also pulled from her vehicle and apparently suffered leg injuries. Jensen said it was unclear how many people were involved in the crash. “The Tesla was on fire when firefighters arrived and was extinguished by firefighters,” Jensen said. “The injured were taken to a local trauma center,” he said.
The four-lane intersection, controlled by traffic lights, is usually busy during the day but is generally not congested during the accident.
