GOP ‘Red Wasn’t Just Donald Trump’ – ‘Many Leaders’ Should Be Investigated by DOJ

Former acting Attorney General Neal Katyal said Friday on MSNBC’s The Beat that the “blight” that led to the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riots came not only from former President Donald Trump, but from other leaders who should be investigated by the Ministry of Justice.

Guest presenter Jason Johnson said: “We’re starting to see more and more incriminating evidence leaking out. We see how deep the plan was to steal the 2020 election. Newly uncovered text messages received by CNN show Senator Mike Lee and Congressman Chip Roy going straight to Mark Meadows in their full support of the fraud allegations by Trump and the MAGA team.”

Johnson asked, “We know it’s bad and reveals what Republicans were trying to do, but what can the DOJ do with the text messages on the case they’re currently following?”

Katyal replied, “I think there’s a lot they can do. And even before we get to the DOJ, I think it paints a bigger picture of what the January 6 investigation is all about. And I think a lot of us have been wondering, “Why didn’t the Republican Party care more about what happened on January 6th?” You know, right after it happened, Mitch McConnell and others condemned it and stuff like that. And I think these lyrics today, Jason, are starting to point to an answer, which is that the rot wasn’t just Donald Trump. It goes to many leaders in the party.”

He added: “Mike Lee just voted against Ketanji Brown Jackson for the Supreme Court because he said she would not uphold the Constitution. My god, those lyrics show that this guy was involved in the conspiracy of this thing from the start. It’s going too far to call Sidney Powell a straight shooter and say the White House should meet with her. Then, when Powell sounded crazy to self-proclaimed constitutional scholar Mike Lee, he turned to the next craziest person, John Eastman, and urged the White House to listen to this guy. All of this explains why politics was the way it is, making this almost a partisan thing when it shouldn’t be. Yes, I think this evidence can be used in a Justice Department investigation.”
