Hanako-kun, tied to the toilet, teases a mysterious countdown clock

The countdown is running.

The holiday season could bring gifts to the toilet for fans of Hanako-kun as a mysterious countdown to December 22, 2022 has emerged. While it’s unclear how the clock is ticking, fans of the anime and manga alike are hopeful.

The manga, which was published in GFantasy magazine in 2014, is currently in Volume 18, with more to come. The whimsical tale of a wish-granting genie that resides in a cursed school toilet was adapted into a 12-episode anime series that aired for one season in 2020.

Despite a dedicated and loving fanbase, news of the anime went cold after the 12th and final episode of Season 12 aired in July 2020. With the emergence of the nebulous countdown, fantasies run wild as to what the news date could bring.

The hype comes along with Japanese TV network TBS re-airing the final episodes of the first season, leading many to believe an anime announcement is just a week away.

Others are far more lukewarm with their expectations and more than happily accept the series’ Blu-ray release or the announcement of the manga’s final arc. Still, many hope that the beloved anime will finally get its second part after two long years.

While details remain sparse from the franchise’s official website and Twitter account, fans can only keep an eye on the clock and rekindle their love for the anime, which is available to stream on Hulu and Crunchyroll.
