Harrisburg University hosts the STEM Career Fair

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – Harrisburg University has been hosting Career Week for its students, residents and students since 2019. The event highlights professional development, career preparation and employment opportunities.

“I am very happy that our students are coming here. So this is one of the first in-person career fairs we’ve had since the pandemic, so this is a very exciting time for us to get our employers to engage directly with our students.” Jeffrey Kayer, Director of Career Services from the University of Harrisburg.

Harrisburg University students also enjoyed meeting people face to face.

“I’m really excited about today’s career and have been looking forward to it for a while. I hope to speak to everyone at the company just to find out what’s available, what and what skills they are looking for, their jobs and see what potential careers there are for me in the future,” said Travis Tyler, grad student from Harrisburg University.

A partnership between the university and Pennsylvania CareerLink brought more than 25 employers to the show, offering positions near central Pennsylvania and northern Maryland.

“So this expo is to teach our alumni students that you can stay right here in Central Pa and make a big career move,” Kayer said.

The event also catered to non-STEM majors and jobs were available for all.

“I would say keep an open mind when going to an event like this. Anytime I’ve gone to a career fair there’s always been some surprises I’ve found you never know what people are looking for or what potential careers could offer them in the future so I’d say go in with an open mind and ask around and see what’s available,” Tyler said.
