Harry Kane has praised his former Tottenham Hotspur team-mate Kyle Walker-Peters for doing “really well” at Southampton after earning his first cap in England.
That’s what the Tottenham striker said England Press Conference that he knows Walker-Peters from his time in north London and that he is a “great boy”.
There were a number of new faces chosen by England boss Gareth Southgate including Walker-Peters, Marc Guehi and Tyrick Mitchell.
Proving those at Spurs wrong is probably a vindication for Walker-Peters, because almost two years after they sold him to Southampton for £12million (BBC Sport), He can now call himself an England international.
Nonetheless, this is what Kane had to say about the versatile defender, who found success at left-back for the Saints this season.
“I obviously know Kyle Walker-Peters from his time with Spurs,” Kane said.
“He’s a great boy, he works really hard and did really well at Southampton.”
When Walker-Peters was sold by Spurs they still had Serge Aurier on their books and then bought Matt Doherty from Wolves.
Since then, Aurier’s contract was torn up by the north London club last summer while Doherty struggled for consistency.
Walker-Peters could argue that he could be included in Tottenham’s XI not only as a right-back but also as a left-back.
Whatever the case, the 24-year-old is likely to view this move to St. Mary’s as a blessing in disguise as it has served him very well.
