Alabama Jameson Williams wide receiver on January 10, 2022.

The common assumption among most NFL analysts is that the Kansas City Chiefs will draft at least one broad set of receivers by 2022. How soon they decide to do that depends on the debate.

They can come in at 29th and 30th, drawing out any prospects that fall into their hands. They can trade for a player they really love. Or option three, they can wait and choose a wide receiver within two or three because that’s a very deep layer.

Either way, that rookie will join JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marques Valdes-Scantling in a revamped WR legion that included Tyreek Hill, Byron Pringle and Demarcus Robinson a few months ago. A popular commercial candidate to lead this new core is Jameson Williams of Alabama, and his April 15 Instagram story has captivated fans of the Chiefs Kingdom.

Williams visits Kansas City

Earlier today April 15, the recipient widely revealed that he was in Kansas City on social media, posting a geotagged photo outside The Country Club Plaza.

Chiefs Wire’s Charles Goldman first confirmed that Williams was in town during the top 30’s visit before going viral on Twitter.

Before his ACL tear injury, Williams was arguably the most dynamic wide-identity player in the 2022 draft – hunting for speed with his ability to run the ball and the 6-foot-2 goal. NFL drafts analyst Lance Zierlein has described that pace as “electric” and “long,” noting that he “could see monstrous output if combined with a senior talent in the position quarterback” like Patrick Mahomes.

The range of his available drafts has changed dramatically since the ACL failed. For instance, in early February, Williams was mocked with the Chiefs in 30th place, but now his value has once again increased.

It’s possible that Veach will have to make trade-offs to get the Alabama product but whether it’s due diligence or serious consideration, KC doesn’t seem to have closed its doors to Williams.

Is Williams a Pipedream?

After a few Promising injury updateShares of Williams have surged over the past month. ESPN’s Chris Mortensen told viewers – via Eagles . reporter Eliot Shorr-Parks — that he had “heard Jameson Williams would be in the top 10” on the April 13 broadcast.

That would get the Chiefs to advance far enough to capture the Missouri natives was unbelievable. Keep in mind that a top 10 pick will likely cost 2022 for the first time and beyond, greater than the return Veach gets for Hill.

Of course, Williams is only 21 years old and will have 5 seasons in control of the team. However, he is also recovering from that ACL injury and is expected to return until October or November.

It was a difficult call to make to a prospect with a limited track record. Williams posted a ridiculous 1,572 yards and 15 touchdowns with Alabama in 2021 but made very little at Ohio State. In his freshman and sophomore years with the Buckeyes, a total of just 266 receptions and three touchdowns.

At this point, Williams may be a locomotive for the Chiefs Kingdom but this visit to the top 30 keeps hopes alive with the NFL draft just 13 days away.
