Heather El Moussa is busy tying up loose ends ahead of her first baby with husband Tarek El Moussa arriving this month from filming scenes for her TV shows – Netflix’ Selling Sunset and upcoming HGTV series The Flipping El Moussas “ – right down to preparing the little boy’s room. But her social media followers say Heather’s busy schedule is no excuse for ignoring her on Instagram, especially after she specifically offered to “answer any questions” they had for her in a new post.

Heather has said she was the result of her “authenticity” with her fans to become a sought-after social media influencer, but her recent spate of posting and ghosting has led some to say they’re sick of it to follow stars.

Fans call Heather El Moussa ‘rude’ for not answering questions

Heather and her husband of one year, HGTV star Tarek El Moussa, have amassed an impressive following on social media. Alone on Instagram Heather has three million followers during Tarek has 1.3 million. Both typically upload posts and stories multiple times a day, share behind-the-scenes insights into their lives together, promote their events and shows, showcase design and product trends, and participate in brand partnerships with brands they pay to support.

On January 13, 2023 Heather posted a selfie of herself with Tarek in her luxury Sprinter van and invited followers to ask her anything.

“Proud of me for only taking one selfie and not 100,” she wrote, adding a laughing emoji. “And I’m sure he’s too excited anyway lol – he uses this post to answer all + all questions! Can be anything: real estate questions, selling Sunset, baby, skincare, essentials – literally anything! Go”

Fans immediately flooded the post with questions about her life and work, curious about the baby’s due date, wondering about Heather’s favorite beauty regimens and asking about her shows. But Heather never returned to reply to any of her fans, which upset many of them.

Over 100 people “liked” a comment left by a fan, who wrote, “I think it’s cool that you’re trying to engage more with your followers and give them (including me!) what they are want to hear! However, I have a feeling that you don’t often reply to people’s questions, apart from a few links. I know you’re very busy, but I have a feeling that the people who are “influencers” that I like the most are the ones who engage the most with their followers and make the most effort to respond to them. Just a few thoughts”

Another frustrated fan replied, “I agree it’s as rude as just seeing how many hits your question Heather is getting.”

One woman added: “It’s a good way to lose followers which we understand very quickly that she doesn’t provide answers meaning she really doesn’t care if she’s busy but everyone else who is didn’t take the time to comment either, at least she might do the same if she asks a question… very rude.

Others wondered if Heather’s silence was because she was in labor and unable to respond. But the next day, Heather posted multiple Instagram Stories and shared a TikTok video she made of filming Season 7 of Selling Sunset, making it clear she was still on social media and yet not in labor would have.

Meanwhile Tarek posted the same Instagram photo On Jan. 14, the day after Heather, he shared that he’s doing his best to help his family prepare for the new baby. Instead of asking fans if they had any questions, he asked them to share their insights for fathers-to-be.

Heather commented on his post: “Best dad!!!!! I love you my man so much. Beast”

In the Instagram post that angered so many fans, several people commented that Heather’s invitation to ask questions was just part of her social media strategy to generate comments.

One person wrote: “You ask questions like these to get involved. The higher their commitment, the better sponsorship they receive. That’s why they do so many surveys.”

Brands of all sizes pay social media influencers like Heather to endorse their products. According to Influencer Marketing Hub Report 2022 When it comes to social media influencers, “engagement” remains the number one thing companies look for when deciding which social media influencers to hire. The number of clicks or comments that Heather and other personalities generate on their posts matters to marketers who hope that posts about their products will generate a similar level of engagement from fans.

In September 2022, Heather and Tarek were introduced as social media experts at the Zeta Live Marketing Conference in NYC. When asked about her strategy for connecting with her audience, Heather said she has a social media manager who helps plan her branded posts, but she also likes to make spontaneous, “authentic” posts and get involved interacts with her followers.

“I’m myself on social media,” she said. “I like to be myself because I want people to identify with me. I want to talk to my fans, to talk to (the) people who follow me.”
