Giants 2022 Season Preview

The San Francisco Giants surprised many last year with a 107-win season.

San Francisco overtook the Los Angeles Dodgers for the National League West Division title. The Dodgers finished with 106 wins.

Reaching 107 wins again and winning the NL West again will both present major challenges for the Giants. The Dodgers added to an already talented roster, and the San Diego Padres could be recovering from an underperforming 2021 season. The Giants are also adjusting to life without Buster Posey, who retired after the 2021 season.

San Francisco prepared for this day years in advance by picking Joey Bart #2 in the 2018 MLB Draft. Bart will start at the catcher this season in place of Posey.

“He’s already done a really good job over the last calendar year improving his preparation and game calling,” Giants manager Gabe Kapler said, according to MLB.com’s Maria Guardado. “His credibility has improved dramatically over the past two calendar years. This is through the work done. That’s a really good start. The guys he caught in Triple-A last year were emphatic in their praise and faith in Joey, so I think it’s just a continuous evolution.”

Season review 2021

The Giants scored the second most runs and conceded the second fewest runs en route to a 107-55 record in 2021.

This squad benefited from catcher Buster Posey’s strong last season before his retirement. Posey hit 18 homers, drove in 56 RBIs and scored 68 runs.
