(WHTM) – This year, Presidents’ Day is on Monday, February 20th. The holiday falls on the third Monday in February and traditionally honors George Washington’s birthday, but is often recognized as a general celebration of all presidents.
Here is a list of what is open and closed this Presidents’ Day.
Retail stores – open
Retail stores and restaurants are open on Presidents Day, but it’s important to check with local smaller businesses for their opening times. Stores like Walmart, Target, Costco and Marshalls will be open.
Banks – closed
Most banks are closed on Presidents’ Day because it is a federal reserve system holiday. You can go to an ATM if needed or use your banking app.

Schools – closed
Schools are normally closed on Presidents’ Day, but some schools may use the day as a weather day. Most public schools close on federal holidays.
Shipping – Closed
Due to the federal holiday, USPS is closed on Monday and will not deliver personal or business mail. If you’re expecting a package, UPS, FedEx Ground, and FedEx Home Delivery are all operational.
Government authorities – Closed
Federal and state courts will remain closed during the federal holiday, as will non-essential government agencies. These include the DMV, Courthouse, City Hall, etc.
