Whether they’re buying, selling, or renovating homes, HGTV hosts are never short of demand for homes to film in and families to feature on screens. In a Nov. 21 Instagram Story, Jasmine Roth addressed fans and asked anyone interested to apply for a spot on season four of HELP! I destroyed my house”.

“We’re starting to talk about another season of ‘HELP! I destroyed my house’. So if you’re interested, now is the time to apply,” Roth wrote, including a link to the “HELP! I Wrecked My House” Casting Application.

During season three of HELP! I Wrecked My House” aired earlier this month, HGTV has yet to officially announce a Season 4 renewal.

The help! I Wrecked My House” casting application is open to the public and is made through a Google form.

The application states that the production team is “looking for homes in Orange County and Los Angeles County that have 3-4 rooms in need of salvage with a budget of at least $80,000 for renovations. Let our team help turn your renovation frustrations into the home you’ve dreamed of!”

Despite the $80,000 minimum budget required for homeowners, the motion also notes that HGTV helps families with their renovations, writing, “The production will contribute a financial portion to the homeowner’s overall renovation budget.” No contribution amount was listed.

There are some strict eligibility criteria to be eligible for HELP! I destroyed my house”. Homeowners must be residents of the Los Angeles/Orange County areas, have a minimum of $80,000 to renovate, and vacate their homes at their own expense for 7 to 10 weeks during the renovation.


The minimum renovation price for “HELP! I destroyed my house”

The minimum renovation budget required to apply for “HELP! I Wrecked My House has risen over the past year. Jasmine Roth has previously reached out to fans, asking for applications ahead of the show’s third season on Instagram. At the time, her post only required a minimum budget of $75,000, as opposed to this year’s $80,000.

A $5,000 hike isn’t out of the blue given last year’s elevated inflation combined with ongoing supply chain issues in recent years, and this hike has been seen in other programs as well.

Drew and Jonathan Scott are currently casting for “Property Brothers: Forever Home” in Los Angeles, and while they’re asking for renovation budgets of at least $180,000, their application also notes the following:

The cost of renovating residential buildings is at an all-time high, and the construction industry as a whole has seen unprecedented increases in both product and labor costs — partly due to the ongoing pandemic. Before the pandemic, the average Forever Home renovation cost between $100,000 and $175,000, but in 2022 the same projects were reported at $200,000 to $250,000. We want to make sure our families are aware of this new reality before making the exciting (but important) decision to make a forever home renovation.

Roth’s casting call makes no explicit suggestion that prices may be higher than expected. However, if the increases in product and labor costs announced by the Scott brothers continue, homeowners should do more research to be sure.
