In FIFA 23, players build their roster from scratch in FUT, and team chemistry plays a big part in how well players adapt to each other. A new chemistry system is coming into play, and of course fans want to know how this affects team composition. Position links are set to be replaced with a broader system that will allow fans to connect their players across the pitch. This effectively means that your forward and central defender can have a connection despite being far apart on the pitch. How chemistry works in FIFA 23.
What is the new FUT chemistry system in FIFA 23?
The chemistry in FIFA 23 offers players more variety in building their squad with different options to connect. Instead of relying on neighborhood and position ties, you can now focus on building a full squad by recruiting players from the same club, nation and league. The official trailer video highlighted the example of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson, two Liverpool full-backs who have dominated the position in recent seasons.
For example, players can have Lionel Messi as a right winger and link Chemistry to teammates from Paris Saint-Germain, Argentina forwards, midfielders, defenders and goalkeepers. As for icons and heroes, if fans place them in the right place, they will have full chemistry. Icons count as two players against their nations, while heroes count as two players against their leagues.

Fans will also see a new three diamond system on player cards. This represents the number of chemistry a player can have on the field. Players can have from zero to three chemistry. Each player gets a maximum of three diamonds, making a total of 33 chemistry. Check the total chemistry panel on the left side of the roster section to see how much chemistry each player has on the team. Similarly, you can also change player positions based on their real-world team assignments. For example, in the Premier League, Joao Cancelo plays right-back for Manchester City, but you can add a position change to have him play at left-back.
