How to beat Rika from the Elite Four in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

Rika, the first of the Elite Four in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, uses Ground-type Pokémon. Her highest level Pokemon is 58, but for the rest of the Elite Four, getting Pokemon to level 62 is recommended to go all the way. Each Elite Four member has a full team of six and gets stronger with each member. That’s all players need to know about Rika from the Elite Four in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet.

How to beat Rika from the Elite Four in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet’s Rika, the first of the Elite Four, uses ground-type Pokemon and largely covers their weaknesses. Players who have already defeated the Dragon Titan should also complete the remaining Team Star Bases before proceeding to this portion of the game. Rika’s team consists of:

  • Level 57 whiskey – Type Water/Ground, weak against Grass with Muddy Water, Earth Power, Future Sight and Blizzard.
  • Level 57 Cameraup – Type Fire/Ground, weak against Ground and Water with Fire Blast, Earth Power, Flash Cannon and Yawn.
  • Level 57 Donphan – Pure Ground type, weak against Grass and Water with Earthquake, Stone Edge, Poison Strike and Iron Head.
  • Level 57 Digtri – Pure Ground type, weak to Grass and Water with Earthquake, Rock Smash, Sucker Punch and Sandstorm.
  • Level 58 Clodsire – Poison/Ground with Ground Tera type, weak against Grass and Water after Terasatallizing with Earthquake, Toxic, Liquidation and Protect.

Due to the types of Pokémon she has, Rika’s fight requires a combination of Water- and Grass-type moves. Whiscash has only one weakness and is four times weak to grass-type moves and is the easiest to trip. Camerupt is four times weaker to Water-type moves and slower than Whiscash, making it even easier to take down. Donphan will always survive with one HP due to its Sturdy ability. Digtri will be very fast and hit hard, but it’s very fragile and can be knocked out with a higher priority action than Sucker Punch from a strong enough Pokemon. Finally, Clodsire will be immune to water-type attacks due to his Water Absorb ability. Using a Grass-type move is the most effective way to take it down, as it becomes a pure Ground-type once it Terastallizes.
