How to get Apex Shadow Lugia and Ho-Oh in Pokemon Go

Pokemon Go is getting a new set of Pocket Monsters to catch, with Apex Shadow Lugia and Apex Shadow Ho-Oh variants coming later this month.

Niantic has confirmed how Trainers can unlock Shadow Lugia and Shadow Ho-Oh in Pokemon Go in February. Revealing its plans today, the development team confirmed that both types will be part of the upcoming Pokemon Go Johto Tour event.

The plot of Team Rocket’s changing Pocket Monsters will continue with the launch of the new Pokemon Apex, with Trainers tasked with saving them both later this month.

As the name suggests, the Apex Shadow variant will be more powerful and offer different move sets than the existing ones in the game.

How to get Apex Shadow Lugia and Shadow Ho-Oh in Pokemon Go

Niantic confirmed that the new Apex Shadow Lugia and Ho-Oh variants will be released during the upcoming Johto Tour event. This means you must purchase a Gold or Silver ticket to be able to access the Pokémon GO Tour: Johto Special Research on February 26.

This will unlock the Masterwork Research chain, which is designed to take a long time to complete. Niantic says that by progressing through this Masterwork Research, Trainers will encounter Apex Shadow Legendary Pokémon Ho-Oh and Lugia.

Both will release an aura never seen before, which will change when purified. The development team has also confirmed that ticket holders will be able to get both Apex Shadow Lugia and Ho-Oh regardless of which version they choose for Pokémon GO Tour: Johto.

The unique move sets for both Pokemon Apex can be found below:

Apex Lugia unlocks Aeroblast+ and Aeroblast++ when purified.

Trainer Battles: 170 power
Gym and raid: 225 power

Apex Ho-Oh unlocks Sacred Fire + and Sacred Fire ++ when purified.

Trainer Battles: 130 power
Gyms and raids: 155 slots.
