“All American: Homecoming” is a youth film “set in the context of the HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) experience at Bringston University, where black excellence is a way of life,” according to a press release from The CW.

It continues:

The series follows Simone (Geffri Maya, “All American”), a hopeful young tennis player from Beverly Hills who is battling to make a great comeback after a long time away from the court, and Damon (Peyton Alex Smith), an elite baseball player from Chicago, who carries the weight of the world on his shoulders.

After Simone’s aunt, Amara Patterson (Kelly Jenrette), a journalism teacher and activist, exposes a scandal that threatens to derail the school’s beloved baseball program, new coach Marcus Turner (Cory Hardrict) is determined to honestly bring the championship back to Bringston – with Damon’s help. Damon will readjust to his new normal with a fellow baseball player and childhood friend JR (Sylvester Powell) by his side.

Meanwhile, as Simone struggles to find her place, she’ll get a little guidance from Thea (Camille Hyde), the super-competitive queen of Bringston tennis, and Keisha (Netta Walker), the marketer The school’s unofficial headmaster who will help Simone learn to live her best life. As they vie for the high places of college sports, Simone and Damon will also navigate the highs, lows, and glamor of adulthood unattended at a prestigious HBCU.

The first episode is titled “Starting Over” and its description reads, “Simone is excited to move into her dorm and begin to navigate life on her own terms, but her past choices are fraught with excitement. she again brings unexpected failures; Damon and Coach Marcus are eager to turn the tide of baseball.”

Then, on February 28, episode two, titled “Under Pressure.” Its description reads, “Simone begins to rift but finds the motivation to continue doing group missions with Damon and Thea; Damon struggled to stick with the team; Keisha struggles with letting go of her dreams. “

In an interview with Shadows & ActionMaya said it was a myth to get her own spin-off when her character was originally only supposed to be in a handful of “All American” episodes.

“My character was originally supposed to be in ‘All American’ for three episodes… maybe five episodes,” Maya said. “So it was a very beautiful transition. It’s jarring, but at the end of the day when the blessings come, you just have to be prepared and ready to receive them. I’m ready and I’m super excited to just continue the legacy of the show and be able to create another legacy and be a part of this universe that people have grown and loved. “

“All American: Homecoming” airs Mondays at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
