Hulu has announced the release date of The Other Black Girl, its upcoming thriller series based on Zakiya Dalila Harris’ bestselling 2021 novel of the same name.
Like the bestseller, the series follows Nella, an editorial assistant who’s “tired of being the only black girl at her company,” according to the official synopsis, and who’s excited when another black woman, Hazel, is hired .
“But as Hazel’s star begins to rise, Nella falters and discovers that something sinister is going on at the company,” the synopsis continues.
When the show was first announced last year, Harris took to Instagram and shared her excitement about adapting her debut. “This show is going to be weird, wonderful and unlike anything you or I have ever seen before,” she wrote to her followers. “How do I know that? Because of the strong team behind it.”
Sinclair Daniel and Ashleigh Murray play co-leads Nella and Hazel, respectively. Brittany Adebumola, Hunter Parrish, Bellamy Young, Eric McCormack and Garcelle Beauvais round out the cast of the Onyx Collective series.
Harris and Temple Hill Entertainment’s Rashida Jones, Adam Fishbach, Jordan Reddout, Gus Hickey, Tara Duncan and Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey are all executive producers, with Reddout and Hickey serving as showrunners.
All 10 episodes of The Other Black Girl arrive on Hulu on Wednesday, September 13th.
Released in June 2021, Harris’s novel by Simon & Schuster was an instant New York Times bestseller and received rave reviews from critics.
“I know I said that in another caption at some point in the last two years,” she shared in her IG post, “but I genuinely feel like the happiest writer on the planet.”
