Hundreds cheer on local Girls on the Run teams during the celebratory 5K run

Saturday was a great day for some young runners in our area. One hundred and sixty-five local girls in third through eighth grades crossed the finish line, achieving a goal they set ten weeks ago. The Girls on the Run’s season-ending ceremonial 5K was held in Montgomery Whitewater, and hundreds of coaches, family members and officer candidates from Maxwell Air Force Base came to cheer on the girls. This fall season featured 12 Girls on the Run teams from Montgomery, Pike Road, Prattville and Selma. Participants said it was a joy to watch the little runners cross the finish line and feel like they had achieved their goal.
The spring season for Girls on the Run begins in February 2024. For more information, visit
