Hurricanes sign D Caleb Jones to league minimum

Defenseman Caleb Jones signed with the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday on a one-year contract worth a minimum of $775,000 in the league

Jones, 26, spent the last two seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks after playing his first three NHL seasons with the Edmonton Oilers

Jones has 50 points (14 goals, 36 assists) in 217 career games. That includes a best 16 points (four goals, 12 assists) from 73 games last season

“Caleb is a dependable, two-pronged defender,” Carolina general manager Don Waddell said in a press release. “His NHL experience will help build our depth of defense.”

Jones is the brother of Blackhawks defenseman Seth Jones, a former All-Star
