I tried Cariuma sneakers loved by Pete Davidson and Helen Mirren

What do Pete Davidson, Dame Helen Mirren and John Hamm have in common? Their mutual love for sustainable sneakers, of course!

This sentence is not from a Mad Libs game. It is actually a fact. All of these stars have been spotted in a pair of Cariuma shoes, and after checking out the brand, we know why. Not only does it offer so many different styles of comfortable sneakers, but the brand does it in a way that’s as good for the environment as possible. You see, Cariuma prides itself on sustainability (to be honest, when I see an organization tout this, I’m usually skeptical), and their words seem to be true.

The shoes are made of natural materials such as bamboo, which can regenerate after being cut from the stalk, as well as organic cotton, sugar cane and recycled plastics. 65 percent of the brand’s products are 100 percent vegan. So yes. You go the way. In addition, Cariuma plants two pairs of trees in the Brazilian rainforest for every shoe purchased.

When it comes to selection, they have a much wider range of kicks than I expected. For example, they have slip-ons that can be worn anywhere and look ideal to wear while shopping or walking around the neighborhood. They also have these Vans style skate shoes that can appeal to anyone. They’re the kind of shoes I see me and my boyfriend sharing (if he was a size 7ft, that is).

And now, as if Cariuma hadn’t already outdone itself, it offers a range of leather shoes designed to get better with age. They are like good wines, y’all! How does this work? Well, the premium leather kicks are handcrafted with a fully stitched outsole that will survive all the trials and tribulations of everyday life. Any gum contained in the design is also tapped, meaning any milky sap that might otherwise live on the material is gone, allowing for a more preserved appearance even after heavy use.

It’s a good thing that they’re designed for a lot of use, as they’ll undoubtedly become a staple in your closet. The classic white look and subtle colored decals make these sneakers a sneaker you can wear with any outfit, whether it’s a dress or a sweater. Heck, you could even wear them to the gym if you wanted to!

I tested these white low tops because Avril Lavigne taught me that a skating phase should never end. I’ve never been on a skateboard, but the mentality of a skater lives deep inside me. These are incredibly versatile as I have literally worn them to the gym, to brunch and to work.

The non-slip sole keeps me grounded on every outing, and even though the shoes are flat, my feet feel supported every time I wear them. They look great with baggy jeans, floral dresses and even leggings. I know I can style them for any occasion and that’s a really special quality that a pair of shoes has to have.

Oh, and fwiw, these are the pair that internet friend Pete Davidson wore during an SNL “Career Day” sketch last season.
