Ian Wright said it on ITV Football’s International Highlights Show that Nottingham Forest star Brennan Johnson gets better every time he sees him. Leeds and Newcastle are among the clubs reportedly keen on him.
Johnson, 20, has been in stunning form for Forest this season – being involved in 17 goals in his 40 league and cup appearances. It comes after returning to the City Ground after a successful cast in Lincoln City.
He has 12 goals to his name and five assists. That form has seen him join Rob Page’s squad for Wales, where he has nine caps for the senior team – and helped Rubin Colwill score against the Czech Republic on Tuesday.
This was recently reported by The Athletic that a £20million fee was required to sell Johnson – with both Leeds and Newcastle reportedly keeping an eye on it. Wright was full of praise after his Wales trip, having already watched him.
“When you see players like that, it must be pretty exciting. Brennan Johnson, he looks better every time you see him. 11 goals, five assists this season in the league. You are improving.”
Wright on Brennan: £20m still a bargain for Leeds and Newcastle
Brennan is a real talent. When Leeds sold Jack Clarke to Tottenham in 2018, they were paid £10m for his services – after scoring twice in 25 games. Yes, Johnson is a few years older, but still incredibly young at 20.
Leeds or Newcastle would pay Spurs double for Clarke but they would get more than double the player. £20m for Johnson is a steal these days. Both clubs should use one.
