Ian Wright has said he is “very pleased” to see Rodrigo play for Leeds United after Saturday’s 3-0 win at Watford. as he said Match of the Day.
If there were any worries that Leeds might still be in that Premier League relegation battle then all that will be forgotten after this sweeping victory at Vicarage Road.
Jesse Marsch entered a pressure cooker of an environment when he replaced popular Marcelo Bielsa in the dugout over a month ago.
But despite suffering two defeats in his first two games, his side haven’t lost since March 10.
Rodrigo has scored three goals in his last four Premier League games and has been one of the most improved players under Marsch as Wright believes Leeds are now “enjoying” their football under the American.
“Someone like Rodrigo, who I really like when you see him play,” Wright said.
“He’s just playing off Daniel James. He’s really chasing this down (Greenwood through ball for Rodrigo’s goal which wasn’t defended by Watford). From Watford it was disastrous what they did all season.
“But he’s got three out of four now – they look like they’re enjoying their football. Solid in the back and lets them keep going in the front.”
Those in power deserve credit for the reckless and emotional change they made in sacking Bielsa because it works.
Marsch’s methods transformed a previously struggling and morally battered Leeds side.
While Kalvin Phillips has returned for the Yorkshire side, it must be remembered that most of their recent run has still been without their punchy midfielder and Patrick Bamford.
In any case, not only does Marsch deserve credit, but so does Bielsa for creating the platform for these players to thrive in England’s top flight.
