Idaho’s Hayden Hatten, Gevani McCoy and Ayden Knapik were named to the FCS All-Freshman team

Three Idaho Vandals, including first-team picks Hayden Hadenwere honored in the annual Stats Perform FCS All-America and Freshman Football Teams.

Hatten, a sophomore wide receiver, earned his fifth All-American honor. He captained the FCS and broke the University of Idaho program record with 16 touchdowns in the 2022 season and 1,209 receiving yards.

Hatten was also recognized by Hero Sports with First Team All-American Honors and Sophomore All-American Honors. He was named a first-team Associated Press All-American and All-American by the FCS Podcast Bluebloods, as well as a prestigious FCS Athletic Directors Association All-America team.

Vandal quarterback Gevani McCoy and UI tackle Ayden Knapik were named to the Stats Perform FCS All-Freshman team.

• The Vandals added Washington All-State linebackers Xeree Alexander to their early signing class.

Alexander was a first-team All-State for 4A runners-up Kennedy Catholic. He was the NPSL Defensive Player of the Year, scoring two defensive TDs and 115 tackles in the process. On the offensive side, he rushed for 930 yards and 18 TDs on 108 carries. He received the News Tribune 2022 All-Area Team Award.


Several members of the Spokane Collegiate Football Officials Association received post-season assignments to edit playoff games and bowl games.

Below are John love and Steve Curriewho will both be on the field for Saturday’s Peach Bowl CFP semifinals between Ohio State and Georgia.

Love has been named the center judge and Currie will be the field judge for the game at Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

Other postseason duties for SCFOA members include:

Luke Raynor worked as the back umpire for the NAIA first round playoff game between Marion and St. Xavier.

Brandon Litalia was an assistant judge for the NAIA semifinals between Keizer and Grand View.

Tyler Zyph was chief linesman and Josh Behrens Assistant judge for the NCAA Division III second round game between Mary Hardin-Baylor and Trinity.

Roger Stewart was a referee for two games, the FCS first round playoff game between Fordham and New Hampshire and the FCS Quarterfinals between Samford and North Dakota State.

Amy Pistone worked as a back umpire in the FCS second round game between Richmond and Sacramento State.

Steve Hudson will again be a judge for Tuesday’s First Responder Bowl between Memphis and Utah State.

Three local officials – judges Shane AndersonPlay official Jim Northcott and communicator Dan Antonietti – will be working at the Music City Bowl between Iowa and Kentucky on Saturday. Idaho’s Hayden Hatten, Gevani McCoy and Ayden Knapik were named to the FCS All-Freshman team
