Former American Idol contestant Benson Boone must be feeling pretty good about shutting down the show that catapulted him to stardom. The 20-year-old singer made a big impression on the judges during his appearance on the show, which will air in spring 2021, including backflipping his way out of the audition room with his golden ticket to Hollywood.

Despite making the top 24, Boone quit mid-season, signed a major record deal shortly after, and had a meteoric rise in the music industry — including selling out his first US tour in under a minute.

When Boone auditioned for the “Idol” judging panel, which aired during the season 19 premiere, they knew right away that he was special.

“You’re going to faint over Benson Boone,” Perry told him. “I see you win ‘American Idol’ if you want it.”

But Boone, who hails from Seattle, left “American Idol” after learning he’d made the Top 24, unsure if it was the right path for him since he only started singing a year earlier would have.

“When it started I was just excited to be there and just have a good time and enjoy what I was doing.” he told ABC Audio. “But as I moved on … I realized that winning might be a possibility, so it turns out I might not know exactly why I’m there.”

When the show aired in early 2021, viewers fell in love with the goofy and unassuming teenager, and his already impressive TikTok following grew to 1.7 million. Imagine Dragons lead singer Dan Reynolds also loved him; He took to Instagram and said he dug up his vibe and voice. The two spent three days writing songs together in Las Vegas, Reynolds decided to sign him to his record label, and the rest is pop star history.

Boone’s song “Ghost Town” became his first single on the Billboard Hot 100, debuted in the top 25 of both the Top 40 and the Hot AC charts, racked up nearly 200 million streams on Spotify, and was certified gold by the RIAA. In July 2022 he released his debut EP “Walk Me Home” and released his latest single – a ballad called “Before You” – on October 27th.

Boone tweeted“Okay I thought I was stressed releasing the song today but I’m so happy I hope you all love it.”

Now he can’t wait to perform for his US fans. And apparently they can’t either.

Boone has toured Australia, New Zealand and even Norway, where he scored his first No. 1 hit and performed to 50,000 fans, but has not yet headlined his own concerts in the US on October 25th released tickets for his December tour of four West Coast cities: Salt Lake City, Seattle, Phoenix and Santa Ana, California.

Next day, Boone posted on Instagram that the concerts sold out in less than a minute and that his team had added a second show – and then a third – near Salt Lake City that also sold out quickly.

On October 28th he said to Notion that his sudden rise to stardom was “amazing” but difficult at times, which inspired the name of his EP – Walk Me Home.

“It was incredible at first,” he said. “It was the first time I did everything; there were all these new experiences. I still get that, but I had to realize that if I’m going to do this for the rest of my life, there are certain things I need to do. That stressed me out and made me wonder if I wanted to do that.”

He continued, “The songs I wrote became a kind of therapy for me. I went into a session and expressed all my feelings through these songs. From my point of view these songs have helped me get through this year, they are the ones that bring me home and take me to a place where I feel comfortable.”
