The 20th season of ABC’s “American Idol” is in full swing, with judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie watching auditions from across the country. One of the many American Idol hopefuls is Jacob Moran, who has previously auditioned.

Moran auditioned in 2019 and told judges at the time that he was a registered nurse and yearned for a career in music. He’s since lost 60 pounds and worked on his singing.

During that season, Moran made it to Hollywood Week but was eliminated before the showstopper round. This time Moran chose a Katy Perry song for his audition and he blew the judges away with his voice.

Moran sang “Rise” for his audition

TRUST BABY! Jacob Moran has it while singing “Rise” by Katy Perry – American Idol 2022Sister Jacob is a 2019 returnee who has lost 60 pounds and has since gained a lot of confidence. When Lionel told his group, “It’s a no,” during Hollywood Week, that was the kick in the butt he needed to get his life on track. Now he’s back singing Katy Perry’s Rise…2022-03-21T01:15:43Z

When he was eliminated on Hollywood Week, Moran said it gave him a “kick in the butt” and made him work on his confidence.

“It’s what I want to do,” Moran said prior to his season 20 audition. “I want to pursue music. I want to try again here. So let’s do that. Honestly, I want to show them how much I’ve changed and get the golden ticket.”

Entering the audition room, Bryan said he remembered the singer. Perry said she remembered him, too, and that he was “fine, but incredulous most of the time.”

When he said he was going to sing a Katy Perry song, the judges said, “Are you sure?”

Before he started singing, he said, “This could go one way or two.”

Perry was particularly impressed with the singer when he started belting out her song. After he finished, he received a standing ovation from Perry.

“You realize you just got a standing O from Katy Perry for doing her song,” Richie said.

Perry added: “Wow. If you think the last nail is in, think again. I might have gone to Hollywood and I might not have made it through, but I kept fighting. I really think you chose the right song and you did it justice. You gave me chills all over my body, you brought chills to my face, and those words are your words now. You have arrived and now is the time.”

All three judges voted “yes” to bring Moran back to Hollywood.

“Jakob, this time it’s about time. It’s a yes from me,” Perry said, adding, “Welcome back!”

Fans immediately took to the YouTube video’s comments section to express their appreciation for Moran’s voice.

“For me, Jacob is the best male singer I’ve ever heard,” one person wrote. “I love his voice and his range. He sings with passion and lets you feel the song.”

Another commented, “Wow, that gave me goosebumps…”
