“American Idol”

Fans of ABC’s ‘American Idol’ are confused by judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie’s decisions after the top 24 contestants for the show’s 20th season were announced.

The 24 best performances will be shown on April 10th. They were filmed in Hawaii at Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa. During the episode, Jimmie Allen and Bebe Rexha will mentor the contestants.

The top 20 will be announced the following week during the April 17, 2022 episode. Then the live shows of the season also begin.

Before these performances, however, the field of participants had to be narrowed down from 59 to 24 participants. One candidate who was dropped was Kevin Gullage and fans were not happy with that choice.

Some think Gullage is more talented than others

A viewer took to Reddit to talk about Gullage.

“I’m sorry, but how on earth didn’t he make the top 24?” they write. “He was clearly one of the most polished talents this season and had an incredible voice. You didn’t show it at all tonight? I’m really confused and honestly could stop watching this season.

One answer is “Confused too. He deserves a spot in the top 24, but not even showing it? I’m wondering if something happened behind the scenes???

Others said they hoped Gullage wasn’t actually eliminated by the judges.

“I hope that he will retire voluntarily for another opportunity. That’s the only thing I can think of because he was great. I need to know,” one person wrote.

Gullage says: “Not every stage is your stage”

Gullage took to Instagram when he was eliminated to thank him for his time on “American Idol” by holding a question and answer session for him Instagram stories. When asked what was the best thing about his time on the show, he said the stage wasn’t for him.

“Not every stage is your stage. You can put on quality shows every time you go out there, but some stages are made for others,” he shared.

He also shared a post to clarify that he was eliminated and not disqualified.

“I’ve met so many great artists and singers,” he wrote. “Besides, I have to share my gift with all of you out there. There was no drama. There was no problem off camera. The problem was what was on the camera.”

Gullage said he has been performing since he was young and has always been with entertainers.

“The culmination of the lessons and nurturing I have lived for 23 years will emerge on every stage I step on. So I leave everything on stage. Sometimes that way of being… can go beyond what a show like ‘American Idol’ might need,” he wrote.

He also encouraged his fans to keep watching the show.

“Please don’t stop, ‘American Idol!’ to watch,” he wrote. “It’s an opportunity for future musicians (as well as current attendees) to reach a level of themselves and this business that they might not be able to reach without it!”

“American Idol” airs Sundays and Mondays at 8 p.m. Eastern and Pacific Time on ABC.
