In France, inflation is exacerbating the race between Macron and far-right Le Pen

PARIS — Far-right leader Marine Le Pen is using public frustration over energy and food prices to get closer to French President Emmanuel Macron before voters go to their polls on Sunday, a sign of how the war in Ukraine is affecting the country economic and political landscape of Europe.

In an attempt to quell public discontent, Mr Macron has ordered a cap on electricity and natural gas prices. He has also introduced a fuel rebate and offered checks to low-income households to help them buy essentials.
