The Philadelphia 76ers have become a hot topic in the basketball community following news of James Harden turning down his player selection for next season. While the All-Star guard plans to stay in Philly, he is expected to take less money so Daryl Morey can strengthen the supporting cast around him and Joel Embiid.

Before the NBA Draft, there were multiple reports of the Sixers launching multiple players in commercial negotiations. Danny Green was then divided among the Memphis Grizzlies by first pick, but Morey might not have finished. During a recent appearance on ESPN’s ‘Get Up’, NBA insider Brian Windhorst The transactions Tobias Harris mentioned are still being explored.

I don’t think Philly will finish. We are hearing a lot about Tobias Harris in the commercial market. Even after Philly looks into addressing some of the holes in the free agency that this new contract with Harden opens, I wouldn’t be surprised if they wanted to do more of their list to build more around Harden and Embiid.

As the team’s highest-paid player, a move from Harris will give the Sixers much more flexibility. The veteran forward will hit $37.6 million in the upcoming season and then $39.2 million in 2023-24. Harris is about to run a 2022 campaign in which he posted an average of 17.2 PPG, 6.8 RPG, and 3.5 APG.

The Sixers keep an eye on Danuel House Jr., Otto Porter Jr.

One area the Sixers will likely look to tackle in free agency is wing depth. Now that Danny Green is gone, Doc Rivers has few options in that area other than Matisse Thybulle. John Clark of NBC Sports Philadelphia reported that Otto Porter Jr. and Danuel House Jr. are two possible targets of the Sixers’ free agents.

Along with championship experience, Porter Jr brings much-needed size and shooting ability to the Sixers’ roster. This season at Golden State, he averaged 8.2 PPG and 5.7 RPG while shooting 37% from outside the arc with more than three tries per game.

House Jr is another three-and-D wing and has many ties to the Sixers. The 29-year-old has had four years with the Houston Rockets and is a former teammate of James Harden. House Jr played a total of 42 games for the Rockets, Knicks and Jazz this season and averaged 5.9 PPG while shooting 37.6% from outside the arc.

Sixers looking to increase their endurance

A common word that people around the Sixers have used since they came out of the playoffs is toughness. That’s what Joel Embiid brought in after being knocked out by the Miami Heat and resurgent. Liberty Ballers’ Paul Hudrick recently reported the Sixers are prioritizing toughness and defense in their search for a free agent.

One player that perfectly fits this description is veteran striker PJ Tucker. Since declining his player selection with the Miami Heat, the Sixers have emerged as the frontrunners to get his service. Similar to Danuel House Jr., Tucker spent time in Houston with Harden and Daryl Morey.

Tucker, along with Porter and House, provides the Sixers with flexibility at the defensive end along with the ability to cushion the floor. With attacking trio Joel Embiid, James Harden and Tyrese Maxey, prioritizing defense around them was the best move as Morey looked to rearrange the squad.
