Everyone knows that the number one rule of the game is that if there’s a waterfall, you need to look for hidden treasure behind it. Mysteries behind waterfalls have become such a long-standing theme in games that There is a Twitter account cataloging every instance of this.
An upcoming indie game decided to take that trope and turn it on its head. Rune Fencer Illyia, a Metroidvania currently in the works, has a treasure chest with a special secret: jumping in will bring you to a hidden area full of waterfalls.
This seems to be just one of the many mysteries to be found in Rune Fencer Illyia. The action-platformer focuses heavily on exploration in a vast world of interconnected areas. One of the features that sets it apart from other games in the genre is the ability to steal runes from enemies to create powerful spells.
In Rune Fencer of Illyia you play the title character, Illyia of Moonstone, who wakes up in the wreckage of an airship that has crashed on a devastated world. She must travel across the dangerous unknown land to find her twin sister and somehow return home.
