“It looked like they pulled a toddler out of my stomach,” says the mother of a 13.5-pound baby after giving birth

Dealing with a pregnancy can be quite a difficult affair.

Not only does it predictably take a huge toll on the body, but it also requires a lot of increased spending!

As the pregnant parent’s body shifts and adapts to the growing baby, clothing and the way one uses one’s furniture also change.

After all, not only does your body size expand, but your center of gravity also has to shift to accommodate the extra weight.

Floridian Christine Corbitt and her husband Larry Corbitt are aware of the need to change their lifestyle and habits after having three more children before this pregnancy.

However, Corbitt has to deal with something outside of the average – her children were born on the heavier side of the scale.

In fact, the size of her children meant they were diagnosed with fetal macrosomia.

This isn’t an alarming diagnosis — rather, it’s used to describe babies who weigh over 8 pounds at birth, regardless of their gestational age.

One of their children weighed 9 pounds at birth and another also weighed almost 10 pounds, making it easy for this couple to deliver a larger than average newborn.

Based on this history of their previous children, both of whom were born under this category, the Corbitts expected something similar for this third child.

Christine in particular was mentally and physically prepared for the possibility that the newest member of the family would likely weigh 10 pounds at birth.

A quick look at the photos she provided to us tells you how big this baby would be – there’s no way that bump would fit in a maternity dress, no matter how loose!

Because of the health issues Christine had during this pregnancy — such as healing from a burn that covered 27 percent of her body, gestational diabetes and anemia — doctors decided to bring the baby forward five days from May 20, or 21st to May 15th.

The baby was delivered via cesarean section at Orange Park Medical Center.

During the pregnancy, it quickly became apparent that the decision to have an early delivery was a wise one – not only did Christine’s iron levels drop so low that she required three blood transfusions during the procedure, the baby turned out to be massive!

This baby weighed a whopping 13 pounds and was so big that everyone in the operating room was in complete shock.

Both the doctors and the mother kept exclaiming that there seemed to be no end in sight as they pulled the newborn baby out.

After the baby was properly delivered and weighed, there was a sort of quiet awe in the room.

Carleigh Brooke Corbitt blew everyone away and looked like she was 6 months old when she was born.

Given that she was born prematurely, doctors and parents alike suspect the baby could have easily reached 15 pounds had she been delivered by her due date!
