It’s the first day of class at the State Police Training Academy. Do you have what it takes for the next course?

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Sunday, February 19th marked the beginning of a new chapter for 48 men and women with dreams of becoming Louisiana State Troopers.

The select group of cadets reported to the Louisiana State Police Training Academy for their first day of a 24-week training course.

During classes, members of Cadet Class 102 learn personal discipline, attention to detail, leadership, teamwork, and inner strength.

The course teaches cadets in several areas of study, including:

  • knowledge of weapons
  • tactical driving
  • de-escalation techniques
  • advanced accident investigation
  • lawful use of force
  • implicit bias detection
  • unfitness to drive detection
  • effective communication
  • Leadership qualities that exemplify the LSP core values

What happens after you graduate?

Cadets who successfully complete the 24-week course will graduate and move on to even more classes. You’ll put what you’ve learned into action by participating in a 10- to 16-week field training program. As new troopers, they work alongside veteran colleagues who show them practical applications of the skills they learned as cadets.
