It’s time for Biden to choose the Ukraine war

President Biden will enter the House of Representatives next Tuesday to deliver his first State of the Union address. That is when America will find out how he has chosen to address the defining moment of his presidency.

There will be plenty of time to stamp out the West’s misjudgments and mishandling of Vladimir Putin so far. But failure can frankly be summed up as a lack of seriousness. Mr. Putin spent years giving bloody evidence of his intention to expand “Russia” – in Crimea, Donbas, Abkhazia, South Ossetia. After that, the US and Western Europe went back to cutting their military budgets, arguing about new welfare allocations and transferring their energy security to Russia for the sake of “decarbonisation”. Putin gathered troops on the Ukrainian border while the US debated the duty to wear masks and personal pronouns.
