Teen Mom: The Next Chapter star Jade Cline embraced it TikTok on February 22nd to confirm that her parents, mother Christy Smith and stepfather Michael Smith, went into rehab to be treated for addiction.

“I’d prefer you guys to hear from me first,” Cline said in the post.

“Long story short, for the last six months the relationship between me and my parents hasn’t been really close or really strained because of their own choices and I felt like they weren’t doing really well in their current lives. I’ve learned a lot about loving an addict and I’ve learned a lot about boundaries and it’s important to do what you need to do for your own sanity and for the health and happiness of your own family,” he said Cline at the beginning of her post.

“A few weeks ago I took her out to dinner so we could talk about rehabilitation and what that looks like for her and if that’s an option for her. If they are open to it or have thought about it. Luckily, my mom and dad both said they thought rehabilitation was something they both needed to get their lives back on track,” Cline continued. Accordingly People, Cline’s parents were arrested in May 2019 for possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance. Teen Mom cameras rolled when Cline received the call from her mother and asked Cline to get her out of jail for $500.

Cline also said in 2019 that her parents’ addiction issues are ongoing in their lives, saying, “They’ve been hung up for so long, they’re like binge addicts they’re going to binge on [on drugs] and then they are fine. And then for a month it’s like a fairy tale and it’s like I have my mother back, my mother is back.

Today, Cline let fans know in her three-minute TikTok video, “I basically said to my parents, ‘I think this is what you guys need and I would be here to support you guys…’ So did I with Sean there was [Cline’s fiancé, who went to rehab in 2022 and has been sober since]. He is proof that the program works. The steps work. Long story short, my parents both checked into two different facilities in two different states last week and are beginning their rehabilitation journey.

Cline asked for good vibes and support from followers, confirming in her TikTok caption that while this won’t be an easy journey for her parents, “My mom and dad are both doing really well with treatment!”

Before the distance that had grown in their relationship over the past six months, Cline and Smith had become closer while filming Teen Mom: Family Reunion together. Fans saw as Smith threw an engagement party (or “wig-gagement” as Smith called it given her daughter’s job as a hairdresser) for Cline and invited Austin on the “Family Reunion” trip to surprise Cline.

During the reunion special, The Aftermath, Cline and Smith were both brought to tears as they shared footage of their work with life coach Dr. Cheyenne Bryant throughout the season, including Smith’s commitment to “show them a good mom and a good grandma and build a better, strong relationship.” The two chose to create more good memories for the future.
