Jake Paul named Sports Illustrated Breakthrough Fighter of the Year

Following in the footsteps of his older brother, Jake Paul’s boxing career has taken off over the past few years. After an epic year in the ring, Sports Illustrated awarded Paul the honorary title of Breakthrough Fighter of the Year 2021.

Whether it’s YouTube or boxing, Jake Paul’s Career has been covered in controversy. From causing chaos in the neighborhood at Team House 10 to challenge people on twitter to a boxing match, Paul certainly knows how to cause a stir online.

Regardless, one of Paul’s greatest strengths is being able to engage an audience no matter what he’s doing. “All publicity is good publicity” applies to both Paul brothers, and they continued to thrive even after facing backlash from the internet.

The most recent drama centered around Paul is his ongoing drama feud with Dana White. While many people theorize that Jake Paul’s staged boxing matches, Sports Illustrated considered Paul a huge success.

Sports Illustrated writes that, after just five fights in his professional career, Jake Paul has “elevated” the sport of boxing. Name the piece Paul Breakthrough Fighter of the Year recounts his battles against Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley… all three of which ended in a knockout.

SI also references the negative comments Paul has received from professional boxing legends. However, SI did not award Paul because of his disqualification, but because of how polarized he was.

In 2021, Jake Paul managed to sell out the arenas and generate pay-per-view sales. While he’s not boxing in the Vegas arena or putting out championship-like numbers, he’s doing more than most newcomers can hope to achieve.

The boxing community doesn’t love Paul, and SI claims he won’t win many either. But his already massive following is growing, and competitors are lining up for a piece of the fame Jake Paul can contribute. Paul’s trainer BJ Flores said, “Everybody around him was lifted.” Even the underdogs in Paul’s event saw their Q increase, which proves Flores’ point.
