Speaking on Sports skyJamie Carragher discussed Arsenal’s shape and Alexandre Lacazette’s role in the Gunners attack.
The Frenchman has had a resurgence in recent weeks, and Carragher has been impressed with the role he has taken on.
Indeed, while Lacazette has become a more traditional No. 9, he is playing a deeper role in recent weeks, and Carragher noted that Lacazette has played in a similar way to Phil Foden.
What was said?
Carragher is analyzing Arsenal’s attack.
“I just wanted to show you the problems it caused for opposing teams in that position. You can see Lacazette there, he comes in very deep and that’s very reminiscent of where we see Phil Foden sometimes,” Carragher said.
“As we often see with Man City and now with Arsenal, you have five fronts. Look at Lacazette, he’s really deeper than Xhaka and Odegaard in their position.”
Mikel Arteta was studied by Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, and you are certainly seeing that at Arsenal.
Indeed, it is no coincidence that Lacazette plays in a similar style to Phil Foden, and for that matter, there are comparisons drawn between Jack Grealish and Emile Smith Rowe while Riyad Mahrez and Bukayo Saka are neither. same.
This tactical setup is clearly something that Arteta and Guardiola both agree on.
