Jared Skeete in court after a demonstration in Knowsley

Jared Skeete, 19, of Irwell Close, Aigburth, Liverpool, was among 15 people arrested on Friday night during the demonstration outside the Suites Hotel in Knowsley, Merseyside Police said.

Skeete appeared in Wirral Magistrates’ Court on Monday charged with violent disorder and assault by hitting an ambulance worker.

The teenager, with curly black hair and a gray jumper, spoke to give his date of birth and address.

No pleas were filed and the judge’s bench, Melanie Beverly, remanded Skeete to appear at Liverpool Crown Court on March 13.

His mother was at the court hearing, which lasted about half an hour.

The remaining 14 people who were arrested: 12 men and two women, mostly from the Knowsley area; were released on bail pending the outcome of the police investigation.

Merseyside Police said the violence, condemned by politicians, left one officer and two members of the public with minor injuries.

Firecrackers were reportedly thrown at officers and a police van set on fire after it was attacked with hammers.
