JCTC offers commercial driver’s license training

Are you thinking about getting your commercial driver’s license? Well, now you can take part in JCTC in just four weeks. The college offers both Class A and Class B education. These licenses include semi-trailers, trucks and other large non-passenger vehicles. For school buses, another driver’s license is required in addition to Class A. The course begins with virtual classroom training and then puts students in the driver’s seat. Benji Vonallmen is a student in the program in his final week of training. He said the course is not difficult if you apply yourself and work hard. “It’s not rocket science,” Vonallmen said. “I think it’s a good amount of time to at least get us driving, understanding the components of the truck and making sure we have the skills to pass that driving test.” JCTC CDL instructor Jeff Brooking is an experienced one Semi-trailer driver retired five years ago to teach the program. He hopes his course can help address the country’s truck driver shortage. “Everything we buy, whether groceries, toiletries, cars, whatever. You can’t do it without trucks,” Brooking said. “It’s very important that we get as many people here, train them and get them back on the road.” While getting drivers on the road quickly is important to Brookings, providing quality drivers is his top priority. “We take I’m proud of how we teach these people because I look at it this way: If I’m training someone to get their CDL, I want to bring a good product to market,” Brookings said. There are two sessions left at the JCTC in 2023. The next session begins on October 9th and runs until November 3rd. If you would like more information, click here.
