Jen Psaki talks about ‘pregnant women and people after birth’, not ‘women’

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki continued President Joe Biden’s emphasis on transgenderism Friday when she referred to “pregnant women and those postpartum” during a news conference.

Psaki spoke about a new initiative from the Department of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). She announced that “up to 720,000 pregnant and postpartum people in the United States could receive health coverage from Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program for a full 12 months after pregnancy, thanks to the American Rescue Plan.”

It is not known how many transgender men – women who identify as men – become pregnant and give birth. The number of “male” pregnancies accounts for only a tiny fraction of the total number of pregnancies.

However, there is evidence that unplanned pregnancies are more common in transgender men due to the misconception (no pun intended) that taking testosterone, which many transgender men use to encourage the development of male secondary sex characteristics, prevents ovulation .

“It is well known that testosterone is not enough for contraception because it does not reliably prevent ovulation. Unfortunately, much of the transgender community believes that testosterone use is a contraceptive measure,” said a scholarly paper last year.

The White House also this week issued guidance on transgender therapies for children, some of which are discouraged by medical professionals in other countries.
