After a lot of complaints from fans, the New York Jets finally listened and changed their uniforms.
Owner Woody Johnson teased it on Friday, July 22 with a tweet:

Not what fans are looking for
Fans stood on the edge of their seats thinking that Johnson’s tease was actually about an old uniform.
However, a large part of fans were disappointed when they discovered that the helmet was actually just a replacement helmet.
Back in 2013, the NFL stopped using second helmets due to safety concerns. Over the years, some of the initial concerns have disappeared, which prompted us to change the rules.
In 2021, the NFL made a change and allowed replacement helmets with old uniforms.
“According to a federation memo, the second helmet can only be worn with the so-called classic, alternative or Color Rush jersey.”
The Jets chose to pair a brand new helmet with their fan-favorite stealth black ensemble. According to the team’s website, this is the first time in the team’s history that the Jet will carry a “black shell”.
Gang Green will use this full stealth black uniform on three separate occasions during the 2022 season:
- Week 8 at home vs. New England Patriots
- Week 12 at home against the Chicago Bears
- Week 16 at home against Jacksonville Jaguars (Thursday Night Football)
Fascinating details for this part
Paul Bruzzese had most suitable Feedback on the helmet revealed that he liked the product, but at the same time, it was not what he wanted.
Don’t worry Jets fans, though, because if you look closely at the press release, there’s actually something hinting that old uniforms could be rolling out.
“The Jets will continue to operate with updates to their uniforms, and several teams have announced classic uniforms and helmets for the 2023 season.”
Now, the old uniform they should roll out has been a pretty fierce debate on social networks.
One of the choices was the New York Titans uniform to pay homage to the franchise’s roots. Before the jet was green and white, they were blue and yellow.
From 1960 to 1962, they were the New York Titans before becoming the Jets team we all know and love today in 1963. They have worn that uniform sporadically for the past decade.
The other uniform that Jets fans are tearing up about is kelly green with a modern jet that extends from the ‘J’ horizontally across the ‘ets’ on the helmet. Gang Green wore this uniform combination from 1978 to 1997.
However, when and if these uniforms will be brought back is yet to be written in stone, there has been some information suggesting it will launch in the near future.
