The New York Jets experienced a nightmare scenario during the first game of the 2022 season against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Zach Wilson has suffered a non-contact injury and the fear on social media is that he has a “right-sided torn ACL”, according to the Pro Football Doc (David Chao).
However, after the game, head coach Robert Saleh gave “no updates” on his injured quarterback. He said we’ll wait and see what the MRI has to say.
With that being the case, let’s hope for the best and expect the worst.
If Wilson can’t go, the Jets still have a 2022 season to play. While it’s possible the team would simply hand over the rock to veteran QB Joe Flacco, they wouldn’t have done their due diligence if they hadn’t explored other available options.

Lots of connective tissue
Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer is one of many on social media who started connects the points between the Jets organization and San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.
The Jets have been jokingly referred to as the “Eastern 49ers” because all the coaches came when Robert Saleh was hired:
- Mike LaFleur (offensive coordinator)
- John Benton (offensive line coach)
The 49ers showed up ahead of this season and announced that this is Trey Lance’s team going forward. In that same statement, they reiterated their desire to trade Garoppolo at some point this season.
The value of a potential deal is not what San Francisco is looking for (which partly explains the lengthy delay). Although this is exactly the situation the 49ers were hoping for.
The Jets would only be interested in this trade if Wilson was injured and he did. Now in theory, a desperate Gang Green team could step in and make a deal.
Chances are the Jets will have to bid somewhere between the third and fifth innings to get the veteran quarterback. There should be, the two organizations have a lot of ties and this can be the perfect support for both of them.
The 49ers will get something for a player who is destined to hold a clipboard. While the Jets will be able to keep this position to a minimum for the 2022 season.
Wilson is likely going to have a serious injury and there’s a lot of promise in terms of what he can do on this offense. However, given his ability to play, there is still a lot of talent in this team.
SNY’s Connor Hughes say this Jets The offensive line has the “potential” to be a top 10 unit and he even admits that could reduce its value.
In addition, they have a wide range of weapons from Breece Hall to Elijah Moore to Garrett Wilson and others.
With so much talent at their disposal, perhaps acquiring a proven veteran like Garoppolo could not only keep this season going, but potentially turn the tide entirely.
He is someone who has worked around the area and has had a lot of success in this tournament, including getting the 49ers to the Super Bowl.
The 30-year-old is entering the final year of a record $137 million contract in 2022. His cap for next season is just under $27 million, so it will have to be redone for delivery. This translator works.
However, if Garoppolo is going to do it for anyone it would be an opportunity to start in a place he already has a lot of familiarity with.
