Jets Need More Houston 12.5 Sack EDGE Chris Odom from USFL

USFL Championship Game

Some sights and sounds from the pre-game festivities for the USFL championship.

One of the things New York Jets general manager Joe Douglas talked about when he was hired is leaving no stone behind.

Some of the things he says with the same breath about improving the roster are searching the commercial market, exploring available free agents and looking at other leagues.

That last point can cause the blue and white pieces to uncover a hidden gem through an alternative soccer product.

You can never have enough juice

Jets X-Factor analyst Geoff Magliocchetti recently listed some USFL players that green and white should “keep an eye on”.

One player that will be of interest is Houston Gamblers passer Chris Odom.

While the Gamblers as a team were unsuccessful in finishing badly 3-7 and taking last place in the USFL men’s tournament, the same cannot be said for Odom.

The former Arkansas State product leads the USFL in bags with 12.5 and is the only player to score a double-digit number of bags in the inaugural 2022 season.

It was a good enough performance to earn Defensive Player of the Year was honored:

The 27-year-old originally joined the NFL as an untrained free agent and entered the league between three different NFL franchises: the Atlanta Falcons, the Green Bay Packers and, most recently, with the Washington Commanders.

Between the NFL stops are a number of opportunities scattered in alternative football leagues such as the AAF (American Football League), CFL (Canadian Football League) and now the USFL.

Magliocchetti explained: “Help is unlikely to come at the end of this season, which will make Odom one of the most sought-after USFL items as the signing process gets underway,” Magliocchetti explained. explain. “Odom can also be a huge asset on special teams: he has saved four goals on the field in 10 Gamblers games, notably the final goal for a 77-yard touch in the game. last win of the season.”

More developed leagues is good news

Insider Turns Off Potential Jets, Trades 49ers ‘I Don’t See It’Boy Green continues to give you details on the New York Jets-San Francisco 49ers deal that won’t happen this season. You can never have enough rushes and Odom would fit what head coach Robert Saleh wants to do on that side.

With the USFL back in a new form having just completed its first season, the XFL approaching in 2023, things are looking for football leagues to evolve.

This must be great news for the Jets and every other NFL franchise.

More platforms for players to showcase their talents is good for everyone. Think about Odom’s story alone for a moment.

In many respects, this young man just couldn’t catch up for one reason or another. He was brushed aside, but the USFL brushed him off and gave him another chance to check his stuff and Odom did exactly that.

Now he’s going to be a much sought-after player in post-USFL free agency and that wouldn’t have been possible otherwise.

The 6-foot-4, 256-pound quarterback and outfielder offer versatility and a diverse skill set. While the Jet’s locker appears full from the outside looking in, you can never get a sufficient number of passes.

Everything happens in the NFL: players get injured, some rise, some fall, and there’s always a spot on the NFL roster for someone with that kind of skill. Especially on the Jets, where their entire defensive philosophy is based on the fact that they need to get rid of the opposing midfielder and play with the lead.
